Woodie: Towson RB looks like 'a D-I major prospect'

Bulls defensive coordinator Raymond Woodie said Wednesday that Towson senior RB Darius Victor -- a two-time 1,000-yard rusher -- reminds him of one of his former team's resident wrecking balls.

"Several years ago, when we were at Western Kentucky, we had a guy by the name of Bobby Rainey," said Woodie, who watched the ex-Buccaneer and current New York Giant churn his way to WKU's career rushing record (4,523 yards). "His body type (was) 5-foot-8, 215 or 220 (pounds), but this kid (Victor) is actually 230 and he's a load."

Victor led Maryland with 2,017 rushing yards as a senior at Hyattsville's Northwestern High. He has run for at least 1,200 yards each of the last two seasons at Towson, which employs a two-back, power-based scheme.

"He can block, he can run, he looks like definitely a D-1 major prospect when you watch him on film," Woodie said.

LONG-AWAITED DEBUT: Receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator T.J. Weist said he expects redshirt sophomore WR Stanley Clerveaux to make his collegiate debut Saturday after missing the last two seasons with injuries.

Clerveaux, a three-star recruit out of North Miami High, took a redshirt in 2014 after undergoing shoulder surgery, and tore his ACL in the '15 preseason. He currently isn't listed on the two-deep depth chart but has participated in all of preseason camp.

"He's stayed healthy," Weist said.

"He's been a little bit off and on but he's been doing well. He's been confident. It's been tough for him these last two years going through what he went through. But I think he's really been playing well and I think there's a chance you could see him (Saturday)."

ODDS AND ENDS: Woodie said former Plant High standout Austin Hudson, currently behind Devin Abraham and Tajee Fullwood on the free safety depth chart, likely will make his USF debut Saturday on special teams. ... Weist said Towson's defense likes to mix things up out of its 3-4 base alignment. "They do bring blitzes, they rotate their coverages a lot, play a lot of different looks," he said. "So it's gonna be a challenge for us really to look at the looks, to recognize 'em, to execute our offense." ... RG Dominique Threatt made the all-name team of's Dennis Dodd. ...
