Communications Workers for Smith

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Rod Smith today received the endorsement of the Communications Workers of America, representing 17,000 Floridians in the communications, manufacturing, media, government, education and travel industries.

“Rod Smith is the leader with the vision and effectiveness to fight for real change in Florida,” said Don LaRotunda, CWA Florida Political Director. “Rod Smith has always fought for Florida’s communication workers as a labor lawyer and as an elected official. Now we will fight to make him our next Governor.”

Geez, Rod is announcing labor endorsements all the friggin time. Dems - what's the deal with this?

Is Davis has any heart he would've put Rod away months ago. I'd be willing to bet Rod wins the fundraising race this time around.

    ldwilder,

He’s nailing the right and left over Davis. It’s that whole politician/politico disconnect I’ve been talking about. The newcomer (even if perceptional in nature) is getting the call this time. Voters (particularly Dems) are done with the incumbents, and the repetitive and hypocritical “bi-partisan, can’t we all just get along, both R and D culture of corruption, and just general BS” of politicians. It’s one of those good ol’ fashioned revolutions that will have many self-proclaimed political experts/consultants stumped – and out of a job – after the season.

“Throw the bums out and give me the new guy” will be the theme come Election Day. The endorsements that Smith is picking up equates to numbers in the polls on E-day. And I agree, Rod will most likely surpass Davis in money as well.

To be truthful, I dig watching this all happen. It’s past time for a house cleaning, across the board. It’s long overdue… and we need it.

    GO ROD!

This is an incredible coup by Sen. Smith.

Didn't Smith vote for a bill that made it easier for workers to be laid off? A bill Bush wanted, too. It always seems like Smith votes like a Republican. Why do we want this guy as our candidate? Why would people vote for a fake Republican when they could vote for a real one?

All I know is Davis is my guy.

    streynolds,

Soooooo, what you’re saying is that Davis is a “Real” Republican?

    GO ROD!

    jbpublic,

All that "Go Rod!" stuff makes you sound like a cheerleader, and you're obviously about as smart as one.

Jim Davis is the only candidate who deserves that D after his name. Rod Smith is more in love with Jeb than Crist, but at least Crist admits it. And you didn't deny it either.

    streynolds,

Funny thing ... I read your posting as "more in love with Jeb than Christ". That would have made for a much more interesting post!

Sen. Smith is winning endorsements because he is more in touch with Floridians -- period. You can talk in circles about this vote and that vote. Frankly, I don't know nor do I care.

And, I was a cheerleader in my younger years. So, I'll take the opportunity to change up the cheer ...

    Gimme a "R"
    Gimme an "O"
    Gimme a "D" ...

In case you need assistance, it spells the first name of Florida's next governor.

I wonder if having some cheerleaders following him around would help Jim Davis wake up from that comatose state he's in.

    Probably not.

adam's prof - The way the Times tells it, the records say Smith voted for SB466 but then voted against it after committees weakened it.

Does the entirety of your head fit up there?

The answer lies within the three words contained in your post, those being, "voted against it"

    adam's prof -

Namecalling will get you nowhere outside the playground.

Let's use somet thinking here - Rod Smith votes for bill that weakens worker secuirty, a bill sponsored by Republican Lee Constantine. Committee weakens said bill. Smith now decides to vote against the weakened bill.

That means either he wasn't happy to see this Republican bill weakened or he finally remembered he's supposed to be a Democrat.

I want no part of that.

    google is my friend :)

As noted in a 8/05 issue of FL Fiar Trade Coalition's website ..."How U.S. trade politics has shifted was
demonstrated by the CAFTA no votes of traditional free trade Democrats Jim Davis
(D-FL) and Harold Ford (D-TN) who are both seeking statewide office in their states"

Because the workers of Flrorida have always known that Jim Davis was a free trade freak ...he feared NAFTA and supported CAFTA until the vote just because of his run for Guvenator... jim should have kept that campaign team as they coached him better than the current one

Vying for union, Davis rips Smith

"Voting records show Smith voted for the bill (SB 466) but opposed it when it came back from a conference committee in a weaker form."

i.e., the bill came back from committee with less protection for workers so Smith voted against it.

A preliminary vote is different from then a roll call vote on third reading. The bill in its final form is all that matters.
