Johnson's Fresh Campaign Stump

Give Republican CFO candidate Randy Johnson some points for finding a fresh campaign issue -- and with a consumer angle to boot.

The state representative from Celebration showed up at the Florida Press Center in Tallahassee Wednesday to unveil a proposal to require more disclosure on "exotic" line mortgages -- such as promises of 1-percent loans -- that often leaving borrowers surprised at closing and unable to make monthly payments.

Johnson advocates the state adopting the rules and disclosure requirements similar to those advocated by the National Association of Mortgage Brokers. The Palm Beach Post reported earlier this week Florida ranks 49th among the states (Georgia is last) in all types of mortgage fraud.

Yeah, give that Johnson some points. Sounds like a plan to me!

If I'm not mistaken, this is the first candidate for CFO talking about the issues.

"Exotic" mortgages may not excite everyone, but this job should be a consumer advocate and I'm happy to see someone have a plan!

    yawn-

lets see...so far Johnson misspells a billboard to generate press, tries to storm the speaker on the floor to generate press, releases endorsements from mayors from two major cities, and for some reason...neither of those cities happened to be Orlando ( makes me want to know why) and now releases a new platform idea on a subject ALL residents are familar with, in hopes of generating press

Things are looking up for Johnson- now I will sit back and wait for other amazing ideas from this campaign-

Well blah, at least Johnson is talking about issues and this is a rather good one at that.

    Really?
Orlando mayor, Buddy Dyer, is a DEMOCRAT! Hm, why isn't he endorsing Johnson? Not to mention the fact that Buddy is a joke.
Get over the spelling error and watch the race, Johnson will overcome.

    Fire,

Quite honestly I think that Lee is the one who will be trying to overcome. RJ is already doing pretty well right now and I anticipate he will continue to gain strength the further we are removed from session. Lee is a prime grade ahole and many were just waiting for session to finish to let him know it. Randy Johnson (just rolls off of the tongue) or Tom Lee (sounds like a real ahole). That should be good for at least 5 points right there.

    49th?

Does that mean we have nearly the least amount of mortgage fraud or the opposite?

    Nole 1:

Simply calling a candidate names, like Senator Lee, only decreases and degrades any, if any, credibility you have.

    Be specific!

    Please!

    Thank you!

Hey, that's my guy Johnson!!! I told you bloggers this was the race to watch. I like Randy Johnson, and I like that the guy keeps fighting. It's like "Jeb Who?!!"

    Blah...

Yawn? Yawn? That's all you've got to say? Finally somebody decides to talk about an issue in a campaign, and all you've got to say is Yawn? It is getting to the place that if you're not talking about sex, drugs and rock and roll, your bored. Issues? Who needs issues when we've got Tom Gallagher to make fun of.
Personally, I'm bored with the whole Gallagher/Crist rant. This is something new to focus on.
And, I'm still not sure about the "billboard issue", you and everyone else in Tallahassee keeps talking about. For the rest of the state of Florida, we're not there and missed that one.
But whatever it was, it must have worked, 'cause you're still talking about it!! Think about it, you're not talking about Lee, you're talking about Johnson, and I love that! Say whatever you want, but keep saying his name.

    Paul d...

Are you reading challenged? Did you fail the FCAT??
Get with the program buddy, you're giving Democrats a bad rep.

Blah- Consider that no part of Johnson's district actually falls within city limits of Orlando.

In all, I'm surprised this race is so close (with the intervention of the governor and all). It is still the closest statewide race, Republican or Democrat.

I believe the candidate whose message resonates with Republican voters best will win. And it looks like Randy is doing a good job of focusing on the issues, not just qualifications and endorsements. It'll be interesting to watch though.

    Ninja-

His distict is REALLY close, I mean...he lives in Celebration, that is pretty close...

is the race REALLY that close? I haven't seen numbers. Both of them suffer from lack of name recogn, so it does make sense that it is close, but once the season heats up...and people other then us nerds start paying attention, those "interventions" by the gov and the LT Gov and the Speaker of the House will pay off

Tom Lee has been endorsed by...

Jeb Bush, the leader of the Republican Party for the last 12 years,

Toni Jennings, the only 2-term GOP Senate President... and the only GOP female Lt Gov..., and

Allan Bense, a solid Panhandle conservative who presides over the largest GOP majority in state history.

It's a clear signal to GOP'ers that the one candidate (Lee) is better than the other.

    blah--

Why don't you get back to helping your boss organize his dollar bills for the rest of tonight's activities......

Johnson is actually taking a stance on an issue, the fact that he is continually on the right side of an issue is much more than anyone can say about Tom Lee who could make a profession of talking out both sides of his mouth in an effort to please both sides...............

From GOP Boss: "It's a clear signal to GOP'ers that the one candidate (Lee) is better than the other."

You've got to be kidding. It has nothing to do with Jeb, Jennings, or Bense thinking Lee is better than Johnson.

Jeb backed Lee because a.) it was a deal made to get some of Jeb's bills passed through the Senate and b.) Jeb is convinced that a moderate (Lee) is needed to beat Sink in the general election.

No one really noticed the Jennings endorsement. For better or worse, she doesn't excite anyone. Did you read the text of Bense's endorsement? He said the bare minimum required to consider it a true "endorsement".

    Tom Lee's Hoe-

I don't work for Lee, I just happen to not like your boss!

    As for double speak-

Johnson spoke about the term limits bill that went before them last session. Incidently, it has NOTHING to do with the CFO race, but hey I wasn't the one claiming he is all about the issues in this race- Back to my point- so there he was pontificating on the dangers of going over the voter's head and making the term limits longer. His point was that if the voter's have voted in one way, it would be wrong to go against their will. I agree with this point, actually I felt it very smart. The one thing that irritated me- Johnson voted for the classroom bill- another issue that WE THE PEOPLE voted for- Only a hypocrite could (or someone who double speaks as you say)say in one point- "The important thing is protect what the electrate wanted" and then VOTE to change the express will of the people in a different area.

So, whatever garbage you want to say about Lee...that is fine- Hey we live in America. But if you want to continue this diatribe on Lee being a hyprocrite...please look at your candidate- " Hello, Mr Pot meet Mr Kettle"

    No Stickers-

    LOL- comical-

So you actual believe that these endorsments had more to do with electabilty then personal preferance???? WOW- maybe I have been in the wrong camp, the drinks seem stronger over there-

    Blah-
The decision fro Jeb to endorse was from one of those "secret squirrel" meetings. Did you notice how late Jeb's insurance bill was passed in session?

You just can't handle that Johnson has a plan and Lee can't pull one together. He's too focused on his "big" endorsements.
