Mel's Mobile Office
That's the good news. The bad news, Martinez says, is they've discovered Florida for now has only two locations to fuel up: at the Cape and at a base by Panama City. "Obviously we have a little issue with distribution in Florida,'' said the junior senator, noting that the vehicle will have to lug a tank of fuel.
Martinez also said that he's still standing behind Katherine Harris' senate campaign and will headline a fundraiser for her in Jacksonville in three weeks. "Will McBride I've talked to. He's a very nice guy and he's going to try to run a credible campaign...(But) she's going to be the nominee of our party and I'm going to support her."

God forbid Mel take the same position as many other US Senators and not openly work for his parties candidate against the other Senator from his state (especially when it is a lost cuase). There are many examples of this, but the best one is Reid/Ensign in NV, Reid is the Senate Majority leader and refuses to help the son of a former Democratic President. But, I suppose Mel being Mel, will be disgustingly partisan until the day he dies.

Possibly with the opening of a "mobile office" in Tampa, we can all see Mel sometime. It seems Senators only crawl out of the dark when it's time to get reelected.
Let's just wait to see if this office helps citizens "access" the distinguished gentleman from Florida.

Many times a Senator will work against his colleague, if they're members of different parties, but Mel's decision to actively work to elect Katherine Harris is another reason why he is not very popular (and will be a major target for Democrats in 2010). Harris is, as Tampabryan notes, a lost cause. There is no reason to upset his relationship with Nelson, Florida's senior Senator, over this, and Martinez's ability to get things done for Florida will probably suffer as a result.
