Police union endorses Negron

The Florida Police Benevolent Association said Monday it would back state Rep. Joe Negron, R-Stuart, for attorney general. "The PBA is proud of Representative Negron's long history of support for law enforcement officers and public safety," said executive director David Murrell. The union also named Negron its 2006 Legislator of the Year.

I guess McCollum is not the darling of the police community.

Joe Negron doesn't have enough name recognition statewide to win. Sure he is popular in South Florida, but what about the OTHER Republican media markets such as Tampa, Jacksonville, Pensacola, Ft. Myers/Naples?

South east Florida is nice to have as a home base, but he needs to get his name out more if he plans to beat Bill McCollum in the Primary.

Afterall voters have seen McCollum's name on the ballot for years because he runs for everything.

I hope Negron can pull it off, but I doubt it seriously.

I think that either will make a great AG. I would also like to see Katherine Harris come out and endorse Mc Collum like he did for her.

I'm sure that supporters of Joe Negron also hope that Katherine Harris endorses McCollum.

This seems to be part of a trend of groups and individuals bucking GOP establishment candidates like McCollum and Lee and endorsing their primary opponents.

    McCollum Wears the FOP's Badge

In the Republican primary for attorney general, the statewide Fraternal Order of Police pinned an endorsement on Bill McCollum Tuesday.

The former Orlando-area congressman stood alongside James Mann, a police sergeant in Miami and president of the police union, which also backed McCollum in his unsuccessful U.S. Senate bids in 2000 and 2004.

"When he was in Congress, if we saw a problem, he was willing to talk to us and let us bring it to his attention," Mann said. "That's something that we believe that we need. Bill's willing to listen to us."

McCollum, who has been a stalwart supporter of Katherine Harris' candidacy for the Senate, seemed to waver ever so slightly on that point. "I think Katherine Harris would make a fine United States senator," McCollum said. "I think Allan Bense, if he chooses to run, would make a fine United States senator."

Does anyone know what the PBA did in the CFO race?

This kind of thing would not be happening if Bill McCollum were still alive.

McCollum wins this one easily. He is our next Attorney General.

McCollum winning the GOP Primary = Skip Campbell as our next AG

ronlincoln- You're still in your little dream world that the general voting population loathes McCollum for his actions against Clinton. Voters have either forgotten, have no clue, or the few that still do care can't make a difference for Campbell. Im w/ Levi on this one, McCollum is AG come November.

Bill McCollum will hardly break a sweat defeating Joe Negron in the primary. Campbell may give him a decent run in the general but McCollum will be the next AG.

Im not referring to his actions with Clinton... Im referring to the fact his name has been before Floridians twice in a row and both times he was rejected. 2006 is the not the year to run as a "professional politician"
