Shouting at Jeb

Pasco County Commission candidate Nicole Deg figured the only way to get Jeb Bush to talk about skyrocketing insurance rates was to shout at him during a photo op. It worked. "He was actually really cool," she later told the Times.

Way to go Nicole, if this issue is not addressed Government has failed the people. As I stated weeks ago, it is time to call a special session and get homeowner's insurance on a recovery tract.

out with the old...in with the new.

It is time for us to elect the Charlie Crist and Randy Johnson types who will actually DO SOMETHING about insurance - rather than cater to the insurance companies - ala the two Toms (Lee and Gallagher).

It's nto going to mak a difference who is in the Governor's office (Dem, Republican, Tom Gallagher, Charlie Crist, Rod Smith, Jim Davis) unless the LEGISLATURE is turned over. They show as much contempt to the citizens as Jeb does.

I agree. The main problem was this legislature - like I said out with the old, in with the new. At the helm of this legislature, sat Tom Lee who insisted that we must let the private insurers raise their rates to create a "competitive market" - we all know how well this worked in other industries - i.e. phone rates. Now we are going to elect him to an office that has some oversight over insurance???? Something is wrong with this picture.

Please tell me what Randy Johnson and Charlie Crist WILL DO about insurance? Don't know much about Charlie (as both those guys are avoiding it like the plague, but they BOTH sit on the Cabinet) but Randy Johnson says he has a plan- but that plan consists of something every halfway intelligent person knows is not feasible- you cannot force an insurance company to write homeowners. Even the Democrats agree with that. They've tried it in other states and they take their other lines and leave. So tell me, what is his plan?

Forgetting the political aspect (Rvs.D), I do have to question the insurance industry continuing to play the "if insurers have to write homeowners, they'll stop selling other lines and just leave" card. Florida is the 4th most populated state in the nation. Are you really telling me Allstate and State Farm would just abandon a clientele that large rather than come up with actuarial-sound homeowners policies? No one is suggesting they give away homeowners insurance. They obviously should charge what the market and OIR allow.

I don't know. I'm certainly not an insurance expert, but I just have to wonder sometimes how much of what is used in the homeowners insurance debate is a load of crap and how much is legit.
