Robert Irvine back on Food Network in April
The Food Network announced the decision to rehire Robert Irvine in December, but today the schedule for the new season of Dinner: Impossible has been unveiled. The new season premieres Wednesday, April 8, at 10 p.m. According to Food Network publicist Lauren Mueller, the network felt that, despite Irvine's extensive resume padding last year, the brand was still very strong and that Irvine still boasted a broad fan base. "He made a conscious effort to clear the air and apologize," Mueller said, and the Network has signed him up for a season of six new shows (in fatter times, a season consisted of 13 episodes--these days it's six, then another bunch once ratings have been reported as strong).
For this new season, the show is an hour long and Irvine has partnered with a number of organizations. First up, Irvine heads to Aspen, Colo., to cook for 200 action sports athletes at the Winter X Games. Robert works in severe outdoor conditions, and has just seven hours to make his most extreme menu ever.
On April 15, Robert visits Yahoo! headquarters in the heart of Silicon Valley to celebrate the anniversary of Yahoo! Search. His mission: Make the top 15 most-searched dishes, with a catch -- each dish must be made with a randomly assigned top-searched ingredient!
After that (April 22), it's “Casino Craziness” in which Irvine takes on a real gamble at Mohegan Sun. In a special casino, Robert spins the roulette wheel to see how many people he will serve, rolls the dice at the craps table to see how many hours he will have to prepare and plays three games of blackjack in hopes of winning three crucial ingredients: oil, sugar and salt. Then on April 29 it's off to the NBA All-Star Weekend Cares and Cooks fundraising event, where he has just 10 hours to create nearly 30 different NBA-inspired dishes for 2,000 fans.
According to Mueller, the intro to the show has been modified to reflect the biographical inaccuracies uncovered by the St. Petersburg Times last year, and his written bio on the Food Network site has been altered as well.
