Holy Hog Barbecue opens in Tampa

I've been hearing good things about a new barbecue spot called Holy Hog Barbecue (3501 N Armenia Ave., Tampa, (813) 879-4647). I got an e-mail from a trusted barbecue connoisseur who goes by the handle RibDog. He had this to say about it:

"I joined a few other friends from Chowhound last week to try Holy Hog.  It went into the old Pipo’s space, which seems appropriate since it is the same family as Pipo’s running the place. There is an excellent selection of different barbecued meats including brisket and sausage.  I find many bbq joints don’t do brisket or sausage.  Now the sausage is just a pork sausage and not a beef/pork/jalapeno sausage as you might find in Texas.  But it was good nonetheless. I had a brisket dinner with sausage added on.  This came with two sides, of which I had collards and baked beans. The beans were very good...as were the collards (except for a couple pieces of stalk)...Good Southern sweet tea, too. Not overly sweet. Would I go back? Most definitely. Being in a neighborhood with a slew of other Cuban-style places, a barbecue joint seems to be a good idea.  And I must say that I think his price points on the food were very good in relation to what you got."

Thanks, RibDog. Looking forward to visiting myself soon.
