An interesting development. Just this week I've heard of several new sweets/desserts businesses in the area. Frostings has been at 500 S. Howard in Tampa for a while, but Patticakes opened more recently at 970 58th St. N in St. Petersburg. Patti is doing cupcakes, cream puffs and other desserts, as well as kooky "meatloaf cupcakes," tiny meatloafs in the little cups topped with horseradish-kicked mashed potatoes as frosting. Another newcomer, Sarah Byrne, is throwing herself a launch party for Sarah's Sweets from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 25, at NOVA 535 (535 Dr. M.L.K. Jr. Street N, St. Petersburg). A USF undergrad and St. Petersburg native, Sarah, 25, is doing a dessert catering business, working out of the Nova kitchen. She also does cheesecakes for the new Crowley's (a Bailey's version) on Central Ave. and Anytime Pizza (a red-pepper cheesecake that sounds great). This launch is the first event of the Monthly Entrepreneurs Social Club Celebration hosted by NOVA 535. Head over and try a cupcake.
