FRESH COLLECTION: GARDEN OF HESPERIDES
The creative women of Tampa's Disco Dolls Studio have been busy designing a new clothing collection, which they'll launch Friday with their Garden of Hesperides interactive fashion installation. Brief Greek mythology lesson: The Hesperides were the "Daughters of the Evening" or "Nymphs of the West" who guarded Hera's golden apple orchard. The fruit was supposed to grant immortality if eaten. The flowy femininity of Grecian garb seems to have inspired this new collection and also on that tip, their event will feature a mystical dessert bar, oracle readings by Tygerlili, flowery drinks and a botanical pop-up shop by Thrive: Garden + Water. In the spirit of spring, the Dolls have also transformed their studio. The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. at 4632 N Florida Ave. and is part of the First Friday Art in the Heights event, when local businesses and galleries open their doors and feature artists.
GOOD LOOK: BELLE OF THE BALL
The good people of the Belle of the Ball Project provide formal dresses to local in-need high school students. Since prom is on the horizon, they'll have their distribution center open Saturday and April 21 for girls to come find their perfect dress. They also provide purses, shoes and accessories to complete the look. Everything is free, but $1-$5 donations are appreciated and go right back into the program. The center is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1210 Holt Ave., Clearwater. Donations of dresses may also be made during this time, or visit belleoftheballproject.com to find more times to give.
