5 new nail polish shades for the holidays

16

December

I had a nailmergency over the weekend. After four solid weeks of perfect gel manicures and nails that felt like they would grow healthily for the rest of my days, my nails apparently got TOO long for their own good, or at least for physics, and started BREAKING AT THE SAME PLACE ON EVERY FINGER OMG. Naturally, I freaked out and lost all perspective. The breaks were perilously low, I told my friends, and they were all going to rip at the same time while I tried to do something mundane, like wash a cereal bowl.

My friend Lisa looked me in the eyes with an expression that said, "Calm down, you fool," and told me to simply cut off each nail as low as I could to decrease the leverage on the broken parts and keep them from ripping. This, of course, worked fine. I avoided any injury.

Now, though, my nails are sad, short, colorless and very blah, and it has left me yearning for another beautiful holiday manicure. There are so many fun options out there, and we don't have to stick to cherry red around the holidays. Here are a few fun alternative shades from Essie, Deborah Lippman, OPI, China Glaze and Butter London you might like to try for your festivities. Just be careful washing those cereal bowls.
