Add cheap, last-minute sparkle to your New Year's look
It's New Year's Eve, an annual rite deeply cherished by Deal Divas. We can sparkle plenty and dress to the nines, and no one will question it.
We're going all out, and we're not going to spend that much doing it. Here's how you can, too.
(Yes, even at the very last minute.)
Sparkle mani: Don't forget to decorate your digits. My pal Hilary asked for a gold sparkle-on-black design at the nail salon yesterday and the lady delivered, to say the least. It looks great. See the slideshow for a picture.
On the other, thriftier hand, you can play with color and texture combinations already in your tool kit. Forget about self restraint and add more sparkle when in doubt. I layered Sally Hansen glitter polish on top of a coat of champagne gold polish in the eight minutes I could spare before work this morning. The very sparkly result is very acceptable for NYE.
Dramatic eyes: Resident eye master Deal Diva Stephanie is never short on bold eye-deas (that pun just made me resolve to be more funny in 2014). She suggested using glitter eyeliner, like these $9 shades from Urban Decay, or going for a bold, two-toned smoky eye with these options from CoverGirl (YouTube tutorials are your friend).
If you're short on inspiration, see the NYE looks popping up on Pinterest. Even easier, test out littled-used, sparkly shades from the eyeshadow palette you already own.
Bust out the LBD: Be honest and accept that you are probably making a Target run for champagne and 2014 sunglasses tonight anyway. It's going to help you dress up a LBD for the big countdown.
Not everyone has the will or capital to splurge on a festive dress for one night every year. It's totally fine. Give a basic black dress a whole new look by adding a punchy accessory or two. Think sparkle tights, like this $8 pair from Target with a silver stripe down the side. Or a glittery headband worn across the forehead, flapper style.
Splash of color = also okay: News flash: You don't have to wear black! Break free and stand out in the crowd in one of your favorite neglected dresses.
Have a safe, super fun holiday, everyone. Ching ching!
