2010: A year for fashionable resolutions

Screw all those "be a better person" New Year's resolutions. This year, I want to be more fabulous.

Of course, I need to do it on the cheap. 2009 wasn't a year for frivolous spending on soon-to-pass fads, and 2010 doesn't look much better. My goal is to look like I'm not living in a recession, but to spend as little money as possible. Can it be done? Here's my plan:

Resolution #1: Make my own jewelry.

Swarovski I just took my first ever jewelry-making class over the weekend, so stay tuned for details on how it went. The investment in supplies can be a bit pricey, but payback will hopefully be one-of-a-kind accessories. And a new hobby!

Resolution #2: Shop smarter.

Too often I fall into the "it's cheap, buy it" trap. As Mom says, it's not a deal unless you really need it. Quality is worth something. So is the right fit. This year, I resolve to spend less on junk, and more on pieces that are worth it.

Resolution #3: Dare to experiment.Stevemaddenshoe

I am a classic girl. That's all fine and safe, but I'm ready for a little adventure. A leopard print. Plum colored nails. A big, fat cocktail ring. Will it last? I don't plan to break the bank finding out. But fun deserves a place in my closet.

That's just a start: What stylish resolutions are you ready to try out this year?

(Photos: Think I'll be able to make a necklace like this $210 statement piece by Swarovski? Maybe. But I'm already having cold feet over the leopard print REGAAL pump by Steve Madden!)
