The $50 summer wardrobe challenge

Emmawedge Let's say you have an extra $50 burning a hole in your pocket. (Come on, dream with me here.) You could use it to pay half your electric bill, but that would be no fun. You could buy 50 dollar sundaes at McDonald's, which sort of sounds like a good idea given today's hot, hot, hot temps. But then you wouldn't look hot, hot, hot in your bathing suit.

Better to accept the challenge to freshen up your summer wardrobe with some trendy items that can be gotten for a deal. If you don't have $50, skip a few lunches out and afternoon coffee runs. Your closet will thank you.

We'll start with these cutie-patootie espadrille wedges, on sale at Payless for just $19.99. Wedges must be a part of your summer attire. Really, they are too fun to pass up and way more comfy than heels. Can't you just see this pair spicing up a flirty sundress or adding some kick to your shorts and tee?

Then head to Target and pick out a new, bright tote that works for the beach or weekend errands. This isTote an easy, practical way to add some spunk to your look. And how could you not feel sunny carrying this bag, which you can get in an array of colors for just $14.99?

Next up: Pick from an array of tropics-ready tones that make the most of your sun-kissed skin. Coral and turquoise are two hot colors this season, and they look great paired together or worn alone. This Forever 21 knit top is on sale for $11.04.

Gypsy Okay, we're down to our last $5 (well, not exactly, but feel free to use a little fuzzy math!). Accessories, anyone? Head back to Forever 21 for a pair of earrings, like these gold gypsy dangles for $4.80. Wear them with a dress for your cousin's wedding or to rock out a simpler jeans-and-tank ensemble.

Four items. $50. Wasn't that fun? Your turn.
