Are you a dolt about designers? Here's help
When it comes to pronouncing the names of many high-end fashion designers, I'm a dunce. Is it Christian Lu-bu-TIN or Lu-bu-TAHN? Where does the emphasis go in Manolo Blahnik? (Clearly, I didn't watch enough episodes of Sex and the City.)
Thanks to the Budget Fashionista, I need not be a dummy any longer.
The veteran blogger has created a Designer Dictionary, meant to help us navigate the world of Prada and Posen, Wang and Wu, Jacobs and Johnson. The catalog gives a quick rundown of top designers and, bless you Budget Fashionista, a pronunciation guide that takes the mystery out of saying Isaac Mizrahi (it's miz-ra-hee).
Of course, being able to pronounce a name isn't as beneficial as actually being able to buy the goods, but the dictionary has you covered there, too. It offers tips for getting the luxury items for less and tells you if the designer has a budget-friendly collection.
Count me ready for a much-needed designer education.
