Aveda school in St. Pete relocating, cheap haircuts to continue!
Alas, the days of the $12 student haircut at the AVEDA Institute in downtown St. Petersburg are numbered.
But affordable haircuts are here to stay -- without the worry of rookie mistakes ruining your locks.
Times staff writer Katherine Snow Smith has the scoop on what's happening with the popular Aveda training school. Due to parking problems, the beauty school's black-clad hairdressers-in-training are moving by May to new classrooms in a former Bally's Total Fitness on U.S. 19 in Clearwater.
Sad to see the end of an era? Don't be. Anyone who has enjoyed the Aveda school's cheap haircuts also knows that you get what you pay for: The student cuts take forever. And even with instructors signing off on the final style, quality can be hit or miss.
So what's coming next is an improvement: Groups of 35 recent graduates of the Aveda school will rotate through the downtown St. Pete location to get experience. That means licensed pros will be cutting your hair. In return, prices will go up slightly from the current $12-$18 to $22.
I've had both good and bad experiences with the Aveda school. But at those prices, I can get a trim that will add a extra month or two to a pricier styling. And I can enjoy a low-cost blowout on my lunch break!
