Banana Republic launches new denim collection
Following in its sister store's footsteps, Banana Republic is jumping on the premium denim-for-less bandwagon with a new collection debuting Jan. 6.
The brand is promising more washes and more fits for prices starting at $79.50. That's far less than what lots of people are willing to shell out for designer dungarees. (Though not as many people as in the past, it appears.)
First, the colors: Banana Republic says its jeans will include hues borrowed from faded azure skies, cornflower blue and artist Jasper John's deep, familiar indigo. So poetic for a pant with humble beginnings.
Next, the fit: The eight cuts for women include Skinny, Ultimate Skinny, Slouchy Skinny, Boyfriend, Curvy Boot, Boot, Straight and Trouser. Yes, you read that right. Three types of skinny. That look has some impressive, if perplexing, staying power.
Men get to choose from Straight, Vintage Straight, Boot and Relaxed. So your hubby or boyfriend will need half as much time as you do in the dressing room. Some things don't change.

Kameel Stanley has never encountered a thrift store she didn’t like. Her mother taught her that the true value of clothes isn’t how much they cost, but how many outfits one can create from them. Having grown up in Michigan, she was delighted to learn upon moving to Florida that she almost never needed to wear socks or boots again. There’s a lot of turnover in her closet, and she’s obsessed with dresses, necklaces and wedge heels. She can be reached at (727) 893-8643 or
