A better natural for your face

GetstartedSwirl, tap, buff. Swirl, tap, buff.

That's me, drinking the mineral makeup Kool-aid.

Until recently, my makeup routine was mostly non-existant. I was lazy and not really sure how to use beauty products to achieve the natural look that I prefer. Then a couple of my friends introduced me to Bare Escentuals' bareMinerals line. Who knew that "natural" could look so much better?

This stuff is fool-proof, and good for your skin. (The marketing motto is "makeup so pure you can sleep in it.") In less than five minutes, I apply an SPF 15 foundation, concealer, mineral veil and bronzer, all powder concoctions that involve no icky, thick liquids and leave my skin feeling like silk.  Somehow, it even manages to defy our yucky humid weather by staying shine-free all day. I haven't yet tried the blushes or eye shadow with colors like "sex kitten" and "nude beach."

A starter kit with the basic minerals (chosen to match your skin tone) and brushes can be had at Sephora for $60. (Or online, or at 1-800-266-9135.) Not cheap, but my friends assure me the powders will last a year. I spent extra for concealer and a brush to apply it. The kit comes with a how-to DVD, and the nice ladies at Sephora will give you a quick lesson, too.

Drugstore brands like Maybelline have also boarded the mineral train, so that would be a cheaper way to try it out.

Now if we can just find a miracle product for hair frizz...
