Bling for your hair: the newest summer fad?
Let me preface this by voicing my support of creative summer accessories. With the oppressive heat limiting our wardrobe choices to whatever's least likely to show sweat stains, we need all the embellishment options we can get. A light scarf, a flashy necklace, a pair of eye-catching sandals - bring 'em on.
But I'm not sure how I feel about this new fashion statement.
I noticed them on the instructor of a yoga class I went to last week and had to ask.
"They're Hair Shimmers! Bling for your hair!" she gushed, flipping her locks to catch the light. According to the company's website, Hair Shimmers are made of Thai silk and come in 16 colors. According to the yoga instructor, you can leave them in for months - through countless shampoos, blow dries or downward facing dogs.
But, really, is this practical? Do we really want to grace the cubicle pod looking like a Spice Girl?
What do you think?

Think blazers with statement necklaces, and lots of patterned ballet flats. She can be reached at 850) 224-7263 or
Kameel Stanley has never encountered a thrift store she didn’t like. Her mother taught her that the true value of clothes isn’t how much they cost, but how many outfits one can create from them. Having grown up in Michigan, she was delighted to learn upon moving to Florida that she almost never needed to wear socks or boots again. There’s a lot of turnover in her closet, and she’s obsessed with dresses, necklaces and wedge heels. She can be reached at (727) 893-8643 or
