Broke? Don't forget your reward points!
My boyfriend and I have accumulated exactly 2,652 Coke Reward points. We go through Diet Coke like toilet paper. At left, you'll see a photo of me sitting on a crate of shrink wrapped sweetness at Sam's Club. It's like a really serious smoking problem. I crack a can in the morning, with food, in the car, when I'm stressed. Even though I'm heading straight for a medical journal, I'll get some sweet swag on the way!
We've been saving points for a while now, content to wait until the promotion is over to cash in. I have my heart set on Jamaica. I'm pretty sure he wants a flat screen.
If you're scraping gum and pennies out of the sofa this holiday like, oh, EVERYONE IN THE WORLD, don't forget your reward points. With a few thousand Coke smackers, we could probably do some decent Christmas shopping (if we weren't totally selfish and vacation-centric).
American Express has a good reward program, too -- about one point for every dollar you spend. You can earn gift cards from Home Depot, GAP and Linens n Things (RIP) among others. The Flip Mino camcorder is 24,800 points. A Nintendo Wii is 67,000 points. It sounds like a lot, but think about it -- if you charge large purchases you're gonna make anyway, like furniture or tuition, reward points are free money. Just be sure to spend within your means and pay off the balance ASAP to avoid an interest nightmare.
