Christmas gifting theme: Go local!
This year, my mother-in-law had an idea that may just save this holiday shopping procrastinator. She lives in Texas, and her children are in Colorado and Florida. So she wants all of us to suggest local stores that we would like to support with our holiday wish lists.
It's a great idea, no matter where your loved ones live. Here are a few events on Saturday where you'll find local businesses and artisans selling gifts galore:
Dunedin's Old-fashioned Christmas and holiday parade, 4 p.m. through evening: The cute factor alone makes this small town Christmas celebration worth checking out. And the boutiques in downtown Dunedin have lots to offer the home decorators and foodies on your list.
Ybor Arts in the Park, 9 a.m. until: A daylong juried arts show in Tampa's historic Ybor City. The event features a sale called Deck the Walls -- Art under $100. And don't miss the 25-cent streetcar rides.
Gulfport Holiday Hoopla, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Up to 200 vendors, stores and local restaurants will be open for a beach town street festival, featuring live caroling and a visit from Santa. Don't forget to stay for the lighted boat parade around sunset!
Second Saturday Gallery Walk, 5:30 p.m.: Scour the vibrant arts scene in downtown St. Pete for unique gifts. And who knows, today's watercolor ornament may turn out to be the next Picasso find!
