Clutched by the clutch
The clutch.
I've longed admired women who worked these reduced-size, no-strap handbags. So chic. So cool. So, how exactly do they fit in all of their stuff?
Short answer: They don't. And that's part of the allure. The clutch allows its carrier to move about unencumbered by all the crap we usually stuff in our purses. Really, do we need more than some plastic, cash, lip gloss and a cell for a ladies' lunch or night out on the town?
I bought my first two clutches on sale recently at Macy's. One is black faux patent leather, perfect for the cluster of weddings and formal events I'm attending this spring. The other is camel colored with a weave design, casual enough for jeans but also suited for sundresses. They aren't practical for work, but I like having less bulky options when I'm off duty.
Looking for a relatively cheap way to punch up your weekend wear? Consider these options:
Color Blast: If you shy away from wearing bold colors, you may feel more comfortable carrying them. This "high-impact belted clutch" from The Limited is aptly named.
Show some skin: Snakeskin, that is. Animal prints add texture to your outfit. This one from Steve Madden comes with a chain if you get sick of holding it, and this one from Nine West can also be carried as a tote.
Lovin' leather: A clutch with simple lines and sturdy fabric never goes out of style. This vintage version from Nine West is a steal right now and could very quickly become your go-to handbag.

Kameel Stanley has never encountered a thrift store she didn’t like. Her mother taught her that the true value of clothes isn’t how much they cost, but how many outfits one can create from them. There’s a lot of turnover in her closet, and she’s obsessed with dresses, necklaces and wedge heels. She can be reached at (727) 893-8643 or
