Crocs Popularity Spirals Downward
So there is a Goddess of Shoes. And she has shined upon all proper shoe lovers with the latest news about Crocs. Stock in the rubber clogs has lost 90 percent of its value since last October, according to NPR.
And I couldn't be happier.
I never understood the fervor that was the Crocs Phenomenon. Somehow these foamy-rubber slip-ons went from footwear that should have been restricted to the garden or beach into something that became office and social outing appropriate.
Sorry lady, those Crocs don't go with that evening gown. No, sorry, not even with the rhinestones you added with your Bedazzler.
The sheer "NO EFFORT" persona of Crocs is pretty much the antithesis of fashion these days, which could explain why the company expects to lose 20 percent in sales this year, according to the NPR story.
We hear the Crocs folks are trying revamp their image and could begin making Crocs that look nothing like Crocs -- hey, what an interesting concept. I say scrap the rubber and holes. Make people bend over and lace up their shoes. At least this way they'll have a chance to look at what's on their feet and ask themselves if it's the best choice.
