Dali and fashion share stage at upcoming event
The name Salvador Dali makes me think of melted clocks and how surprised I was when I first learned that St. Pete was home to such an impressive museum dedicated to his works.
What I didn't realize is that Dali also had ties to high fashion. Did you know he designed jewelry and clothes for Coco Chanel?
In a nod to that history -- and an attempt to raise money for the museum's $35-million new building slated for a groundbreaking this fall -- a Surreal Fashion Show will be held Sept. 23 at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club. (Thanks to Times columnist Ernest Hooper for sharing info about this event. He's a diva in his own right after getting named one of Tampa Bay's most fashionable and charitable people men last year!)
The fashion show, luncheon and live auction are open to the public. The fundraiser will feature live sculptures inspired by Dali and Surrealism and created by St. Pete's House of Ska and Ambria's Gallery of Wearable Art.
Cost: $60 per person. Time: 11 a.m. To order tickets, call fashion show co-chairwoman Debbie Hedges at (727) 515-1212 or write to email@example.com.
