Deal Diva judging Trashy Fashion Show in Largo tonight!
You know how you look around your kitchen and see 87 old Kit-Kat wrappers and a a pyramid of Diet Coke cans backlit by the moon and wonder, "How did this happen? How did my life get to this point? And who ate all the cheese Pringles and didn't tell me?"
Someone? Anyone? No?
Cool. Anyway, if you're looking for a use for trash that doesn't involve the landfill, check out the City of Largo's Trashy Fashion Show tonight at the Largo Cultural Center. Designers young and mature will compete to take top honors for couture made from at least 75 percent recycled materials. Here's a story from Times writer Piper Castillo about the event, and a photo of competitor Wanda Rosario, who made a dress and accessories out of old yarn and soda tabs.
Yours truly is going to be a judge! I got a sneak peak at some of the fashions Wednesday, and they are A-MAY-ZING. Everything from coffee cup shoes to a video tape purse to a dress made from old Victoria's Secret bags. I'm having major anxiety over what to wear. Do I have time to make a Diet Coke headdress, a la Lady Gaga? Maybe I'll be really avantgarde and just show up IN a trash bag.
There's a free green expo from 5-7 p.m., followed directly by the runway show at the cultural center, 101 Central Park Dr., Largo. Tickets are $10 for the fashion show. For more information, visit largorecycles.com or call the box office at (727) 587-6793.
And if you go, make sure to say hi to me! I'll take pictures to post on the blog next week.
