Designer jeans for $9!!!
Maybe it's the smell of the stores. Or the inevitable elastic-waist horror obscuring a designer find. Whatever the reason, I've never been much for thrifting.
But our resident thrift store expert, Deal Diva Kim, has turned me into a convert.
At her advice, I recently went scouting thrift stores for tablecloth to use outside. (My goal: the shabby chic look without the Anthropologie prices.) Before heading to Target, I decided to check out Life's Treasures Thrift Store in North Tampa.
First impression: No smell! Second impression: Nice lighting!
I found a tablecloth that would do the trick for $5. Impressed, I decided to give the women's clothing a five-minute whirl. The nicer items were on a rack labeled "boutique." As expected, most of the pieces looked dated.
Then I found a pair of 7 for All Mankind jeans in my size for $9.
I asked to try them on. The dressing room was nicer than in some mall stores. And a quick spin in the mirror proved that the last owner had exactly my dimensions. These jeans were a better fit, I'm embarrassed to say, than my first pair of designer jeans, which cost me way too much money two years ago at Saks Fifth Avenue.
I can't wait to wear them. And go thrifting again.
