Dressing in denial: Picking an outfit for how you want to feel
Hey guys! Hope everyone's Independence Day was awesome. (Mine was)
Am I the only one who feels like today should be Saturday? Always messed me up when a holiday falls in the middle of the week. It's kind of jarring to try to get back into the swing of things.
Even harder when you wake up with the sniffles, which was me this morning. Needless to say, I was dragging a bit.
But this morning when I got to work, a friend complimented me on my outfit. Which was great, except ...
I had a confession to make:
"It's all a mirage," I told her.
Ladies, you know what I'm talking about. You don't feel well, or you're having a bad day, or you're just not feeling THAT confident about yourself.
My solution? Dress the opposite.
Maybe it's red lipstick, or your favorite hair accessory, or a great pair of heels. Whatever it takes, right?
This morning, for me, it was a brown skirt I got from an Old Navy clearance rack, paired with a sleevless black top from a consignment shop, and gold (GOLD!) wedge sandals. And, of course, hot pink polish on my toes.
Deal Diva Katie was kind enough to take an iPhone pic, so you guys could see.
How'd I do? Do you guys do this as well? Do you have a favorite "mirage" item/outfit?

Kameel Stanley has never encountered a thrift store she didn’t like. Her mother taught her that the true value of clothes isn’t how much they cost, but how many outfits one can create from them. Having grown up in Michigan, she was delighted to learn upon moving to Florida that she almost never needed to wear socks or boots again. There’s a lot of turnover in her closet, and she’s obsessed with dresses, necklaces and wedge heels. She can be reached at (727) 893-8643 or
