Easing the sting of swimsuit shopping

Bathingbeauty_3 There's no getting around it; it's officially beach season. And that means it's probably time for a new swimsuit.

I do NOT enjoy shopping for those colorful little scraps of lycra. Most seem best suited to A). teenagers or B). supermodels. Even worse is having to try them on in a poorly-lit dressing room that illuminates your every flaw.

So, for crybabies like me, J.Crew's Web site is offering up to 30 percent off selected swimsuits, which makes the whole agonizing process a little more bearable. I fell in love with this little number, which was marked down from  $85 to $59.

Yes, the sale only applies to items bought on the company's Web site. And yes, it is risky to buy a swimsuit over the Internet. But at least you can try it on in the privacy of your own home. J. Crew will  allow you to return items up to 60 days after you buy them.

And as long as you're browsing, you're going to need something to carry your new swimsuit to the beach, right? This fun bag is not only a great deal (reduced from $78 to $39), it also lets you show your state pride.
