Find inner peace with weekend deals at Macy's, Dillards, New York and Company, American Apparel, consignment shops
I don't know about you, but I could use some serious shopping this weekend. It's been a looooong two weeks, and nothing can cure my funky blues except a zen-like trip to that most relaxing of institutions, the mall. Either that, or an entire box of Ho-Hos. Who's with me?
Here are a couple of deals to look out for this weekend if you venture into the concrete jungle:
At Macy's through Sunday, wear red and take an extra 20 percent off select regular, sale and clearance stuff, including the home store. Or, take an extra 10 percent off fine jewelry and sale and clearance watches. If you wear or purchase a red dress pin for the American Heart Assocation's Go Red week, you can also get the savings. And all proceeds from the pin sales will go to the Go Red for Women movement. Read more deets on the Go Red Movement from Letitia above.
Dillard's department stores have a storewide clearance of 70 percent off this weekend, new reductions just taken on sportswear, dresses, pjs, jewelry, purses, shoes, jackets and bedding. Plus, take and extra half-off ladies clearance intimates (read: skivvies), just in time for Valentine's Day.
Through Sunday at New York and Company, get a pair of free pants when you buy one at regular price, excluding clearance and leggings. And, take $25 dollars off when you spend $75 or more (promo code 2103 online), and take $60 off when you spend $150 or more (promo code (2104 online). I'm thinking this is where I might focus my efforts this weekend, given New York and Company has a ton of petite (and tall) pants, and I am a shortie in need of new bottoms.
If you're in Orlando, be aware that American Apparel is offering a sale on underwear, buy two intimates and get the third free, through Feb. 21. They let me know by sending me some sample thongs, which tumbled out onto my desk yesterday when I opened my mail. Nothing like some good, old-fashioned business correspondence!
For local shopping fans, St. Pete consignment shops Designers' Consigner and Designer Exchange are offering 10 percent off Saturday if you wear your Superbowl team colors -- for non-sports fans, that would be blue and white for the Colts and black and gold for the Saints. Winter wear is on markdown at the shops to make way for spring, and the $5 and under racks are filling up.
Good luck. Let's all find our inner peace this weekend.

Katie Sanders foolishly spurned pretty dresses and shoes as a child, tossing new clothes over her shoulder at birthday parties with a totally rude "no, thank you." Her drab days of monocolor outfits are over now, and she certainly knows better than to turn down free stuff. Her wardrobe mixes classic with quirk. Think blazers with statement necklaces, and lots of patterned ballet flats. She can be reached at 850) 224-7263 or
Kameel Stanley has never encountered a thrift store she didn’t like. Her mother taught her that the true value of clothes isn’t how much they cost, but how many outfits one can create from them. Having grown up in Michigan, she was delighted to learn upon moving to Florida that she almost never needed to wear socks or boots again. There’s a lot of turnover in her closet, and she’s obsessed with dresses, necklaces and wedge heels. She can be reached at (727) 893-8643 or
A disciple of the little black dress classics school, Letitia Stein stretches her budget by looking for styles with staying power. She lives for 80 percent off shoes at DSW, floral sundresses and bohemian chic tops. She confesses to being a bit of a snob when it comes to handbags and jewelry. She can be reached at (813) 226-3400 or
From camo pants and construction boots to sundresses, sweaters and sling backs, Keyonna Summers knows how to make all of it rock -- at rock bottom prices. A Detroit native, Keyonna delves into her urban roots to find fashion pairings that give a nod to street fashion while maintaining the class of the modern, professional woman. She believes in searching for affordable clothes that look expensive and can easily be dressed up or down.
