Get your knit on... for veterans
Calling all DIY divas. The National WWII Museum in New Orleans needs your help keeping veterans warm and toasty this winter.
In 2006, the museum launched Knit Your Bit, an ongoing project to deliver handmade scarves to veterans in VA centers around the country. Since its kick off, the museum has received almost 5,000 warm woolly scarves. They’re apparently a hit with the veterans.
On its website, the museum posted three scarf patterns for crafty divas and divos to follow. The more experienced knitters out there can needle out their own creations (though please note when choosing colors that the recipients are mostly male veterans).
And no one is going to rat you out if you use the patterns to make a scarf or two for yourself. Instructions on how/where to send the scarf are on the website. Organizers want you to include your name so they can send you an appreciation note. Feel free to include a letter to the veteran too.
