The gold goes to ... Winter Olympics fashion!
If you liked the scrumptious ski hats the U.S. Olympic team sported for the opening ceremonies, paired with navy jackets and white slacks, you appreciated the preppy genius of Ralph Lauren.
For my money, it was a silver medal performance in the classic American style that Lauren owns. My favorite piece was the USA Opening Ceremony hat, which is not surprisingly now sold out.
Still to come is the magic that Vera Wang can bring to the outfits of Evan Lysacek, a favorite to medal in men's figure skating.
As a child, Wang had visions of competing on the rink herself. Although she never made the U.S. team, she has stayed close to the sport by designing costumes for Olympic greats like Nancy Kerrigan and Michelle Kwan. Now she is working with Lysacek to make the men's event more fashion forward.
"This is more pressure than an Oscar dress in a strange way," Wang told the Associated Press.
The challenge: The costumes must look good from every angle, sparkle as brilliantly as anything you'd see on a red carpet, yet still hold up under the considerable rigors of competition.
Makes Fashion Week sound like a cakewalk, don't you think?
