For all the deals to be had at consignment shops and thrift stores, plenty of people don't go near them because of a few key fears:

1. The time commitment. As much as I love hunting for a score, sifting through ugly item after ugly item can be exhausting. Sure, it's all worth it when you find a perfect-in-every-way brown briefcase for $4.75, but often times you come up empty handed.

2. The ick factor. Let's face it, second-hand shops often smell a little second-hand -- that distinct mixture of Grannie's curtains and stuffy old furniture. You'll get used to it after a few whiffs and probably forget about it alltogether once you see the price tags, but we all know it's not exactly Nordstrom's perfume counter.

You can browse Goodwill merchandise by category, check out featured items or look at only the newest additions. It works like eBay, meaning that you bid on an item before a set deadline.

Without even really trying, I found this vintage Whiting and Davis clutch for $14.35! It's apparently sitting at the Goodwill of Central Florida in Orlando as we speak... And I didn't have to dig through a massive bin of smelly bags to find it!
