Is it fall yet?
Divas, save me from denial.
A couple weeks ago I felt the first hint of fall weather in the breeze. Nevermind that the chill was gone by the time the sun came up. In my mind, FALL HAD ARRIVED!
I turned off the A/C in my apartment and opened all the windows, stubbornly leaving them that way even as sweat beaded on my forehead while watching Cake Boss. "LA LA LA LA I don't notice you, Florida heat! You do not exist!"
After another sweltering weekend, sigh, I've got to face reality. Full-fledged fall weather is still but a dream. (I'll also take this opportunity to apologize to my roomate for The Day We Lived in a Sauna. Sorry, Rach.)
The point is, I'm sick of this heat. I'm sick of all my shorts and flip flops and tank tops and being smelly. But I'm going to try my darndest to accept reality while also finding a way to embrace the new season.
First item on the list: A pair of shorts that do not belong on the beach.
I saw these Old Navy cords highlighted on a fashion blog the other day and was plesantly surprised when I went to buy them and saw they were on sale for $15!
I'm envisioning them with a simple white tee or one of Tucker for Target's new flowery blouses.
OR you could really go texture crazy with a lightweight denim button down... like the top I recently snagged for less than $20 at Tarjay.
I bought this top during the denial period, but I actually wore it out the other day with a pair of yellow shorts and a long necklace and didn't die of heatstroke! Perfect!
I can't wait to roll down the sleeves and tote it around during those first few cool days, in place of a sweater.
Finally, the footwear. Give me a shoe that hides my chipping polish for a change.
I've been coveting a pair of oxfords for awhile now, but haven't bought any because the thought of wearing socks the past few months made me want to jump in our dinky pool and never come out.
And look! Now the Steve Madden ones I had my eye on are on sale!
Good things come to those who wait.
Sigh, and so we will.

Kameel Stanley has never encountered a thrift store she didn’t like. Her mother taught her that the true value of clothes isn’t how much they cost, but how many outfits one can create from them. There’s a lot of turnover in her closet, and she’s obsessed with dresses, necklaces and wedge heels. She can be reached at (727) 893-8643 or
