Keds shoes (heart) alice + olivia

Aliceolivia Remember Keds? The IT shoe of my middle school years is back and truly more fabulous than ever.

Keds and alice + olivia just launched All that Sparkles, a collection of sequined sneakers exclusively for Neiman Marcus. It's bling meets a casual classic, available in black, silver, pale pink and hunter. The result is like the Keds of my tween memories: Effortlessly cool.

"I don't think I removed Keds from my feet as a kid!  I can't even count how many pairs I had," said the designer brand's founder, Stacey Bendet, who expects these Keds shoes to pair with everything from party dresses to jeans.

I wasn't so lucky. As a kid, I desperately desired Keds shoes. (Flashback to fifth grade. Life revolved around Keds, NKOTB posters and tearful battles with my parents about when they would allow me to pierce my ears and shave my legs.)

I lost the Keds battle. I got a dreaded pair of Apples, the generic knock-off.

Now I'm all grown up, hate shaving my legs and long ago let my second ear piercing close up. But I still lust for Keds.

The new sparkle Keds shoes are expected to retail for $88. Should I expunge my painful middle school memories, or embrace the lessons in thrift they were grounded in? To splurge or not to splurge?
