Make feet happy!
Ouch!! I twisted my ankle last week. I wish I could boast of a Herculean sports injury, but alas. My silly self was running late and ran in heels. (Note to self for the High Heel Hike: Walk, don't run!)
I limped my way to a painful realization. I don't own shoes with anything close to ankle support. Those cute little flats are no better than strapping a board to my feet. Down but not out, I hoppled my way to DSW to find an affordable pair of comfy shoes that aren't geriatric.
I tried on everything from expensive Privo and Cole Haan styles to granola-loving Bare Traps and Earth Origins. My research netted surprises. Privo and Cole Haan lack in cushion what they charge in price. Skechers are not just for kids.
The winning combo of price, style and comfort led me to a ballet flat with an unexpectedly floaty step by Palladium. Marked at 40 percent off the sticker price, I ended up paying $23.96. They're cute enough to wear with skirts as well as jeans. It's not high fashion, but my ankle feels better.
Here's to happy feet!

Her drab days of monocolor outfits are over now, and she certainly knows better than to turn down free stuff. Her wardrobe mixes classic with quirk. Think blazers with statement necklaces, and lots of patterned ballet flats. She can be reached at 850) 224-7263 or
Kameel Stanley has never encountered a thrift store she didn’t like. Her mother taught her that the true value of clothes isn’t how much they cost, but how many outfits one can create from them. Having grown up in Michigan, she was delighted to learn upon moving to Florida that she almost never needed to wear socks or boots again. There’s a lot of turnover in her closet, and she’s obsessed with dresses, necklaces and wedge heels. She can be reached at (727) 893-8643 or

She lives for 80 percent off shoes at DSW, floral sundresses and bohemian chic tops. She confesses to being a bit of a snob when it comes to handbags and jewelry.
