Makeup redux: Lovin' Bobbi Brown
Not long ago, I was a makeup misfit, totally confused about what line to try for what. Thanks to the advice of Deal Divas readers, I've come a long way fast.
I've given Bare Escentuals a test-drive and decided it isn't for me. I've splurged on MAC Cosmetics foundation. I'm sticking with drugstore lines for mascara.
Now I'm ready to go to the next level. For my brother's wedding, I need a little more bang in my makeup kit. Like blush, and **blushing here** another basic called eye shadow.
So I visited the Bobbi Brown counter at Nordstrom. A kind cosmetics consultant gave me a full makeover, even though I explained that I wasn't going to buy much. I was given a beautiful face -- and a list of several hundred dollars in beauty products that created it.
Bobbi Brown gets my vote as the most natural-looking, yet full coverage line of makeup I have tried. Here's where I splurged and scrimped:
Just as many of you raved, Bobbi Brown's blush took my breath away. I already am glad that I made a $20 investment in a coral shade. I also fell in love at first sight with a light pink lipstick that is basically my natural shade, perfected. Why isn't everything in life for sale like that?
I tried three eye colors in brown, bone and taupe that were lovely, but at $20 a pop, I had to economize. So I found the same color palate in a L'Oreal Paris Andie MacDowell eye collection, which for $5 at CVS seemed like a good enough substitute to get started.
The only other thing I need is a lip gloss, and I think a drugstore variety in clear or light pink should work. Any suggestions?
