Mamma Mia: The fashion score
I went to see Mamma Mia to relive my dancing queen days -- young and sweet, only seventeen. I left the cinema inspired by the Grecian and bohemian styles, not to mention the beauty of actresses who have aged as nature intended.
ABBA willing, these simple rules will keep me a dancing queen for life:
* There is no body flaw that can't be cured by a boho dress. Witness Meryl Streep, above, looking sexy yet comfy in Greek blue. The peasant touches simultaneously accentuate and play down the hips of a real woman. (A colleague tells me petite women will struggle with this look. Then go for a tunic top, paired with skinny jeans or fitted pants.)
* Try sequins before Botox. This sounds crazy, but hear me out. Outside the movies, no one wants to see disco bodysuits again. But the eye is attracted to all that sparkles. Hence our affinity for bling. Use this optical effect to your advantage. Try wearing a scarf with tasteful glitter or a jeweled collar to draw attention away from crow's eyes and a muffin top.
* Hold onto to those platform heels. Everything reasonable and rational says you'll never wear them again after a certain age. But you just never know ...
