Melanie Fiona, 26, is the latest song bird to flutter onto the music scene. But one listen to her new album The Bridge and you get the sense that this is no fly by night act. AP_NYET342_MUSIC_REVIEW_MEL

Her sound is a mix of soul, roots and rock. And her style is just as complex. She's a sneaker head who also loves a good heel.

The Canadian-born, Guyanese-bred 26-year-old was recently tapped by shoe guru Steve Madden as a model and muse. And she makes no qualms about sporting the affordable styles of Steve Madden.

The Deal Divas were lucky enough to catch up with Melanie during a recent show stop in Tampa to dish about matters of style. Here's what she had to say . . .

Who are your fashion icons?

Melanie: I have a lot of different influences. I love Sade, she's this natural effortless beauty. I also really love what Gwen Stefani has done. She's done a great job of creating her own style.

Tell us about working with Steve Madden.

Melanie: It was a music feature and an artist profile for his fall line. I like Steve Madden. I'm an artist that is for the people and his stuff gives you the look for less. I also got some great shoes out of the deal (laughs.)

Are you wearing Steve Madden right now?

Melanie: No. (laughs) These are Fendi.

How would you describe your style in three words?

Melanie: Gritty. Glamour. Simple.

What is your "can't live without" wardrobe item.

Melanie: Boots. I'm from Canada so I have to be able to get around in the snow, but they have to be hot! My favorite are this pair of Timberland button-up vintage black boots. They are nylon and I love them.
