Michigan students use 9/11 image in tasteless sweatshirt designs
File this under What Not to Wear. About 15 boys from Edsel Ford High School in Dearborn, Mich., spent their holiday break making sweatshirts.
So far so good. We Deal Divas are all about DIY fashion. The juniors designed the shirts as a nod to their graduation year, 2011.
So what's the problem? The back of the sweatshirts depict the number 11 made to look like the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, according to the Detroit News. The school's mascot, a thunderbird, is shown flying toward the numeral. Underneath are the words "You can't bring us down." If you're curious, click here for a photo of the offending design.
The boys, all Arab-American (I can hear the collective groan of Arab-Americans around the country; I feel you!), wore the hooded sweatshirts to school yesterday and were swiftly sent to the principal's office. The school has yet to say whether further disciplinary action will be taken against the students.
