Must have oxfords!
Have you seen that new Verizon commercial? The one that starts with a stylish girl strolling down a city street before she stylishly checks her (presumably Verizon-serviced) phone? I have no idea what new gadget the company is marketing, but the first few frames show a close up on the girl’s truly stylish black-and-white oxford flats. My boyfriend makes fun of me every time the commercial comes on and I start obsessing.
I need those shoes.
And it turns out I’m not the only one.
If you Google “shoes from Verizon commercial,” you’ll get more than 500,000 hits. All over the Web, people are pleading on message boards for information about the oxfords that grace the commercial for those first precious seconds.
Lots of Internet voices are pushing these $48 Urban Outfitter flats:

Upon close inspection, those seem to be the right pair, but they seem a bit flimsy for the kind of oxfords I had in mind.
These from Steve Madden might be just right. On Amazon they range in price from about $40 to $99.

But as we all know, you can’t do any serious shoe shopping without an obligatory DSW check.
These from Restrictive Scrabble are a little different, but they caught my eye. And they’d certainly be cooler in the summer. At $34.95, they’re the best deal so far!

Katie Sanders foolishly spurned pretty dresses and shoes as a child, tossing new clothes over her shoulder at birthday parties with a totally rude "no, thank you." Her drab days of monocolor outfits are over now, and she certainly knows better than to turn down free stuff. Her wardrobe mixes classic with quirk. Think blazers with statement necklaces, and lots of patterned ballet flats. She can be reached at 850) 224-7263 or
Kameel Stanley has never encountered a thrift store she didn’t like. Her mother taught her that the true value of clothes isn’t how much they cost, but how many outfits one can create from them. Having grown up in Michigan, she was delighted to learn upon moving to Florida that she almost never needed to wear socks or boots again. There’s a lot of turnover in her closet, and she’s obsessed with dresses, necklaces and wedge heels. She can be reached at (727) 893-8643 or
A disciple of the little black dress classics school, Letitia Stein stretches her budget by looking for styles with staying power. She lives for 80 percent off shoes at DSW, floral sundresses and bohemian chic tops. She confesses to being a bit of a snob when it comes to handbags and jewelry.
