My ill-fitting jeans are finally trendy!
I'm 5-foot-3, so regular jeans tend to be too long on me. But when I buy petite, my pants wind up looking like this...
...which, according to a press release I received, is not a bad thing. It's trendy.
I recently got an e-mail touting Baby Boot, denim line inspired by '60s British fashions. "It is a little different because it features a slight flare and shorter inseam than the classic boot cut style," the e-mail states. "The Baby Boot hits perfectly at the ankle for flattering look that is both flirty and refined."
In other words, the jeans are too short. On purpose. But they're not short enough to be capris. They're just short enough to make me question whether Hudson, the company that makes the jeans, is touting this "trend" to save on denim.
At any rate, if your ankles could use some fresh air, you can score yourself a pair of Baby Boot jeans here. That's the Notting Hill style, above ($154). They also come in Love Lane, below ($220):
If too-short jeans are in style, then what's next? Last week my co-worker Jonathan pointed out that I was wearing my sweater inside-out. I'm probably just ahead of the curve.

Katie Sanders foolishly spurned pretty dresses and shoes as a child, tossing new clothes over her shoulder at birthday parties with a totally rude "no, thank you." Her drab days of monocolor outfits are over now, and she certainly knows better than to turn down free stuff. Her wardrobe mixes classic with quirk. Think blazers with statement necklaces, and lots of patterned ballet flats. She can be reached at 850) 224-7263 or
Kameel Stanley has never encountered a thrift store she didn’t like. Her mother taught her that the true value of clothes isn’t how much they cost, but how many outfits one can create from them. Having grown up in Michigan, she was delighted to learn upon moving to Florida that she almost never needed to wear socks or boots again. There’s a lot of turnover in her closet, and she’s obsessed with dresses, necklaces and wedge heels. She can be reached at (727) 893-8643 or
A disciple of the little black dress classics school, Letitia Stein stretches her budget by looking for styles with staying power. She lives for 80 percent off shoes at DSW, floral sundresses and bohemian chic tops. She confesses to being a bit of a snob when it comes to handbags and jewelry.
