My Outfit Monday: Easy, breezy
IT'S REALLY FREAKING HOT OUT. Have you noticed?
With a story assignment that's likely to keep me outdoors most of the day today, I had to choose my garb carefully (a downtown hike for a coffee in foolishly selected red silk blouse on Friday surely hammered THAT lesson home.)
So I went for easy and breezy. Light fabrics that'll give me some airflow and hopefully conceal the copious sweat beads inevitably collecting underneath. TMI.
My white cotton button-down blouse is mercifully paper thin (cue big thank you for nude-colored bra) and nice and flowy. It was $20 and change from Zara a few months back. Don't let the long sleeves fool you -- rolled up, those babies take me right to chill town.
The pink patterned skirt is a classic grandma hand-me-down, priceless.
Topping it off (if you can see it) is my long shell necklace -- perhaps a subconscious nod to how much my body wants to be at the beach on a day like this. Got it for $1 at Life Treasures thrift store a few months back. I paired it with another long silver strand from Express.
I got my FAVORITE camel gladiator sandals on sale at Nine West like a year ago. I don't remember how much the final tab was, but I wish I would have bought at least three more pairs because I'm literally wearing them out -- as in, I had to tape the sole back together last week after I did surgery on the buckle holes to give them just a bit more time. I have yet to find a similar pair anywhere that I like enough to give these up. If anyone has any suggestions, please send them over.

Katie Sanders foolishly spurned pretty dresses and shoes as a child, tossing new clothes over her shoulder at birthday parties with a totally rude "no, thank you." Her drab days of monocolor outfits are over now, and she certainly knows better than to turn down free stuff. Her wardrobe mixes classic with quirk. Think blazers with statement necklaces, and lots of patterned ballet flats. She can be reached at 850) 224-7263 or
Kameel Stanley has never encountered a thrift store she didn’t like. Her mother taught her that the true value of clothes isn’t how much they cost, but how many outfits one can create from them. Having grown up in Michigan, she was delighted to learn upon moving to Florida that she almost never needed to wear socks or boots again. There’s a lot of turnover in her closet, and she’s obsessed with dresses, necklaces and wedge heels. She can be reached at (727) 893-8643 or
A disciple of the little black dress classics school, Letitia Stein stretches her budget by looking for styles with staying power. She lives for 80 percent off shoes at DSW, floral sundresses and bohemian chic tops. She confesses to being a bit of a snob when it comes to handbags and jewelry.
