My Outfit Monday: Ode to Isaac
Visitors in town for the Republican National Convention weren’t the only ones forced to change plans because of Isaac.
I was all prepared to break out my new wrap dress for My Outfit Monday. Then Tropical Storm Isaac decided he wanted to swing through town.

The good news is that the winds and rain that Isaac brought with him aren’t as bad as weather forecasters had feared.
The bad news is that there’s no telling if things could take a sudden turn for the worse.
Ergo … choosing an outfit this morning turned into a matter of towing the line between practical and professional.
My trusty white button-down shirt always comes in handy when I need to stay cool in Florida’s heat and/or dress up some casual bottoms.
Just in case I was called on to wade through any flood waters or high surf, I pulled on thick socks and tall rain boots over dark jeans (to be specific, skinny jeans, to prevent against bunching inside the boots).
I love these Target Missoni boots because they’re functional yet fun. They’ve actually come full circle: I purchased them when a band of bad thunderstorms and tornadoes rolled through the bay area last April.
I also have a whole slew of rain gear, from a baseball cap to a headlamp and this Frogg Toggs brand jacket ($30 at Walmart). I’m a little worried about effectiveness since it’s made of material that resembles paper. But the packaging and outdoors department salesman assured me that it’s waterproof. We shall see!
What do you guys think of the outfit: like or dislike? Any suggestions on fashionable yet functional rain gear?

Kameel Stanley has never encountered a thrift store she didn’t like. Her mother taught her that the true value of clothes isn’t how much they cost, but how many outfits one can create from them.
