Natalie Portman wears flats to red carpet event, doesn't care

There's nothing, save for a tall and frosty fountain Diet Coke, that I like more than a good high heel. It's elongating, it makes your ankles look skinny, it dresses up any outfit (minus your cutoff jorts, ladies). But sometimes, you just... can't.

Like yesterday. I had a real pill of a day at work, in which I'm pretty sure I looked like Cathy from the old Sunday funnies with the sweat drops and hair frizz and stress lines. I got home, changed out of my heels and put on my pewter ballet flats just in time for dinner and a movie (Black Swan!). I felt so comfortable and free! Everything was great, until I got home and saw bags of bread strewn about the carpet and a very fat looking dog sitting in the middle. Like I said, pill of a day.

But that's here nor there. I'm just saying flats were exactly what I needed. So imagine my delight when I discovered this photo today:

It's the black swan herself, Natalie Portman, looking much less schizophrenic and psychoerotic than she does in the film. She went to a Golden Globes after party Sunday, all pregnant and happy and enjoying life in a pair of adorable silver flats. She's still appropriately dressed for the event, cute as can be, sophisticated. But she's like, "Kiss it, haters. I'm with child. You get flats."

I'm really into Natalie Portman lately, because she's gorgeous and talented, but she's also a huge dork. And she's real. If you look closely, you can see what appear to be sock marks, or maybe ankle straps from her other shoes around her swollen pregnancy ankles. Does she care? Pfft. She just got a paperweight from the Hollywood Foreign Press. What's a little ankle bloat?

Let's all take a cue from Natalie, keeping our footwear cute and our feet happy. Here are a couple options to consider the next time you eat too much salt before a formal event.

Forever 21 rhinestone bow flats, $22.80.

Glitter flat, Z London for Payless, $24.99.

Aurora flat from BC Footwear at, on sale for $34.99
