Nordstrom Anniversary Sale preview
For the uninitiated, the inaugural ball of the fall season begins today. Every year, Nordstrom discounts just arrived merchandise for two weeks. When the sale ends, the items go back to full prices.
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is divinely timed just after my birthday. I have a gift card burning a hole in my pocket. After a sneak peak during the High Power in High Heels event, I can share a few of my favorite things. If only I could afford them all...
MAXX New York bag ($129.90 sale, reg. $208): This beauty is hot to trot for the latest trends. Patent leather. Croc embossing. Outer zipper. Cross strap. Available in colors including a tasty eggplant that would make any outfit pop.
Shootie/Bootie, Enzo Angiolini ($79.90, reg. $119.95): Whatever you want to call it, the crossbred bootie is back in a big way. Look for lace-up styles and buckle embellishments inspired by men's wear. Enjoy this look while knee-high boot still feel out of place in Florida's 80-degree fall.
Semanticks jacket ($118.90 sale, $178 regular) and skirt ($64.90 sale, regular $98): Every working gal needs an all-occasion suit in her wardrobe. This is just one example of the jacket-skirt-pant ensembles offered at surprising prices during the sale. You'll wear pieces like these for years.
Not Your Daughter's Jeans ($78.90 sale, reg. $118): I'll check out anything with Oprah's seal of approval. This slim-leg jean is supposed to accomplish what a tummy tuck would, minus the recovery time from surgery. You can pick up other exclusive denim brands like True Religion and 7 for All Mankind during the sale.

Katie Sanders foolishly spurned pretty dresses and shoes as a child, tossing new clothes over her shoulder at birthday parties with a totally rude "no, thank you." Her drab days of monocolor outfits are over now, and she certainly knows better than to turn down free stuff. Her wardrobe mixes classic with quirk. Think blazers with statement necklaces, and lots of patterned ballet flats. She can be reached at 850) 224-7263 or
Kameel Stanley has never encountered a thrift store she didn’t like. Her mother taught her that the true value of clothes isn’t how much they cost, but how many outfits one can create from them. Having grown up in Michigan, she was delighted to learn upon moving to Florida that she almost never needed to wear socks or boots again. There’s a lot of turnover in her closet, and she’s obsessed with dresses, necklaces and wedge heels. She can be reached at (727) 893-8643 or
A disciple of the little black dress classics school, Letitia Stein stretches her budget by looking for styles with staying power. She lives for 80 percent off shoes at DSW, floral sundresses and bohemian chic tops. She confesses to being a bit of a snob when it comes to handbags and jewelry.
