One more reason to heart Etsy!
I have my Deal Divas friends to thank for many improvements in my life, such as eyebrow threading and my new obsession with online shoe shopping. Most recently, Dalia rocked my world by introducing me to the magic of Etsy, an online marketplace of small artisans.
I have one more reason to thank her.
Not long ago, I committed the ultimate marital oops. (Not sin!) For my birthday, my husband gave me a colored pearl necklace with matching earrings. The earring backs were a bit loose, but I just pinched them back together.
You know what's coming next. One morning in an overly ambitious burst of domestic productivity, I decided to take out the garbage before work and poof -- one of my earrings disappeared somewhere between the coffee maker and the front yard. I searched and searched to no avail.
I was getting ready to buy a replacement, spending as much as the original pair cost, when I decided to scout out Etsy. I found a vendor called The Curious Cottontail who made an earring in the style that I wanted, but not the right colors. She agreed to make a set just for me from a photo of my necklace.
A week later, I was wearing my necklace again, with earrings that my husband agrees may be prettier than the originals. (See photo.) And for a grand total of $7, I don't have to feel guilty anymore about my "oops."

Katie Sanders foolishly spurned pretty dresses and shoes as a child, tossing new clothes over her shoulder at birthday parties with a totally rude "no, thank you." Her drab days of monocolor outfits are over now, and she certainly knows better than to turn down free stuff. Her wardrobe mixes classic with quirk. Think blazers with statement necklaces, and lots of patterned ballet flats. She can be reached at 850) 224-7263 or
Kameel Stanley has never encountered a thrift store she didn’t like. Her mother taught her that the true value of clothes isn’t how much they cost, but how many outfits one can create from them. Having grown up in Michigan, she was delighted to learn upon moving to Florida that she almost never needed to wear socks or boots again. There’s a lot of turnover in her closet, and she’s obsessed with dresses, necklaces and wedge heels. She can be reached at (727) 893-8643 or
