Pam Bondi's conservative evolution

It was barely a year ago that we named Pam Bondi one of Tampa Bay's best dressed for 2009. She called her style conservative but trendy and wore one of her favorite looks -- the one-shoulder dress -- to our photo shoot.

Trendy, for sure. But not exactly your grandmother's conservative.

What a year a difference makes. Bondi, now Republican candidate for Florida Attorney General, channels supporter Sarah Palin at every stop.

Her signature look: A black suit jacket, buttoned, paired with a high-necked red blouse. On the night of her primary election, she walked on the wild side by going red-on-black.

As a fashion blogger, I'm not going to debate her political views. But her fashion evolution is fair game. Since when does GOP stand for Generic, Old-fashioned and Plain? Because in my view, Bondi's style polling has fallen, even as her political fortunes have risen.

Where is the Bondi who wasn't afraid to tell the newspaper she'd rather splurge on one pair of leather shoes than 10 outfits? What happened to the diva willing to bear shoulder in public? I won't vote on looks, but it would sure make election season more fun to see Bondi return to her fabulous self.
