Pantone's color of the year: Honeysuckle!

legallyblonde.jpgFinally, someone listened to our constant pleas for more pink in the universe.

Honeysuckle, a.k.a. PINK, is the color of the year, according to Pantone. The world-renowned color research company anoints a hot new color annually, and last year it was a beautiful turquoise. Loved it and all, but I'm turbocharged for the shameless, man-destroying power of this year's choice.

"Honeysuckle emboldens us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor," says the Pantone website. "A dynamic reddish pink, Honeysuckle is encouraging and uplifting. It elevates our psyche beyond escape, instilling the confidence, courage and spirit to meet the exhaustive challenges that have become part of everyday life."

Uh, sure.  Also, IT'S PINK, Y'ALL. It emboldens me to be PINK. Pantone colors are exact down to a number (18-2120 in this case). But when you're out shopping, look for variations of the shade, flattering on most skin tones and great paired with neutrals, reds, oranges and purples.

Of course, Pantone doesn't just crown a color without conveniently tying it to names and products. So let's do this thing. Check out forthcoming designs from some hoity-toity designers using honeysuckle, including Adam Lippe, Nanette Lepore, Peter Som, Cynthia Steffe and Badgley Mischka.

You can also apply for your very own Pantone honeysuckle Visa card, but DUDES, BE CAREFUL. Don't go around selecting your credit cards based on their pretty colors! Interest rates! Debt! Economic crisis! Inflation! Goldman Sachs! Ok, we're done with the motherly pearl-clutching for the moment.

Bridal outfitter Dessy has a whole line of lovely bridesmaids gowns in honeysuckle.  Love it.  I'm more of a black bridesmaid dress girl, but I could totally see the temptation to put six of your best girlfriends in a row of bright-freaking-pink.  You know?

If that's not enough, you can paint your ENTIRE HOUSE in HONEYSUCKLE, thereby driving out ANY MAN who DARES TRIFLE.  Perfect, right? Don't say we never did anything for you.

UPDATE: My redhead friend just scolded me for encouraging honeysuckle bridesmaid dresses. Sorry, redheads, but I think you can pull it off! Own it.
