The Pharaoh: Let my people go unburned

12

April

Warm weather has arrived. That means sun dresses, sunglasses and, for many Divas, sunburn. To prevent the back of your neck from turning beet-red, you could invest in a hooded swimsuit. Or you could try out Jeremy Cooper's new invention, the Pharaoh. Here's the Clearwater resident modeling the look:

Pharoah
I admit, I questioned whether this was an April Fool's joke when it landed in my inbox on April 1. But the Pharaoh is just a less complicated version of the hat-and-towel combo many people already sport to beat the heat. Cooper got the idea for the terry cloth creation when he moved to Florida in 2001 after living in Detroit most of his life.

"The sun is brutal," said Cooper, 34. "From sun up to sun down, I'm usually outside." Cooper works outside hauling stock metal and doing landscaping. He's tried wearing a towel under his hat, but the towel wouldn't stay in place. Besides making for a miserable workday, the problem was getting in the way of Cooper's favorite outdoor activities: working on cars, mountain biking, fishing and "mostly just girl-watching," he admitted.

Drawing from the skills his seamstress mother had taught him, Cooper began marketing the Pharaoh in the fall of 2009. The headpieces sell for $14.99 on eBay. They're available in white, pink, sky blue and kelly green. Now you can fight heatstroke and color coordinate. Here's Cooper's neighbor Rennie modeling the pink one:

"When you have to be outside during the summer, you have to be smart about it," said Cooper, who shot his first commercial for the Pharaoh over the weekend. "That's one of the smartest ways to keep cool and keep from falling out."

Divas, under what circumstances would you sport the Pharaoh?
