Pleated khaki skirts: Not just for back to school!
I happened into Old Navy the other day and found myself admiring the school uniforms. No, really. I liked the pleated khaki skirts available for girls -- the lines, the color, the stiff construction. And there's something very Heathers ("What's your damage, Heather?") about the idea of mixing a proper item with flashier, darker pieces that say, "I'm graduated, suckas!"
Still, stare too long at the kids' rack and people think you're either pregnant or twisted. I moved along, but it made me wonder what grown-up options existed in the same spirit. Here are a few I found. And stay tuned to Deal Divas next week for a roundup of TAX FREE SALES! Thanks, schoolchildren!
This BCBG Max Azria pleated khaki skirt calls to mind my controversial yellow swing skirt, so naturally, I like it. But it's too pricey, even though it is on sale for $96.90 at Zappos.

Oh my stars, I love this. It's from Pierre Darre', and it has a HUGE BOW. That's a technical sartorial examination, by the way. It's $75, so we're getting closer to reality. But I'd have to try it on and adore it before making that kind of leap. Still. BOW.

Ah, here's the Deal Diva option. $29.99 at Banana Republic. It's... nice. Fine. I like it. But my eye keeps leaving this one at the curb and going up to the bow number, of course.

Maybe I'll just buy a girls' size XXXL uniform skirt and add a bow to it. The Heathers would never dare.
